CIVIL RIGHTS

new York’s greatest strength is diversity—of backgrounds and ways of Life. Threats to any group are a threat to us aLL.

  • Hate crimes are at record levels, especially affecting Jewish, AAPI, Black, and LGBTQ+ New Yorkers. We must use the full power of state law to investigate these trends and their causes, and to eradicate hate crimes for good.

  • As a Jewish New Yorker whose ancestors came here to pursue a life of freedom and dignity, I am particularly disturbed by the growing ignorance of Holocaust among our youth. We must improve Holocaust education so all New Yorkers know the full nightmare that comes with allowing hate to flourish.

  • We must continue to protect New York’s immigrants—a quarter of our population. That includes passing the New York for All Act to end state collaboration with ICE.

We must continue to foster our vibrant diversity for future generations.

As a gay man and a Jew—descended from immigrants who came here in search of freedom and dignity—I know that New York’s greatest strength is being a place where all people can celebrate their full identities.
