CLIMATE

We are facing a cLimate emergency, with fLooding of our streets and subways posing an existentiaL threat to our district. Downtown Manhattan shouLd be Leading the charge for a more sustainabLe future.

  • We can reduce carbon emissions from their biggest source, transportation, by shifting car rides to public transit, through congestion pricing, more busways and bike lanes, and ending our inducement of driving via millions of free parking spaces.

  • We must promote housing density to ensure more New Yorkers can live near their jobs, doctors, families, and friends — reducing sprawl and its resulting emissions.

  • We must ensure our urban infrastructure is green, from supporting implementation of Local Law 97 and Int. 2317 cutting emissions from city buildings to subsidizing zero-emission vending carts.

Statewide, we must take robust actions like those collected in the Climate Can’t Wait agenda to meet the climate goals codified in the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act — and go beyond them.

  • We must decarbonize the statewide grid and physical infrastructure through steps like the Build Public Renewables Act and All Electric Building Act.

  • We can crack down on corporate polluters, including shifting recycling requirements to manufacturers through Extended Producer Responsibility and banning high-emissions proof-of-work crypto-mining.

  • We must fund our commitments through ensuring our state’s wealthiest individuals and corporations pay their fair share to benefit all New Yorkers and future generations.

It’s time for boLd action to save our city and state for future generations.

That means cutting emissions in our housing, streets, and factories—and offering high-quality alternative options for commuters and communities.
