LGBTQ Rights

Our district is the queer heart of nYC, and our representatives shouLd be Leading the fight for marginaLized Lgbtq new yorkers.

  • Sex work is work, but too many marginalized queer New Yorkers are overpoliced and incarcerated. They deserve the safety and dignity that come with full decriminalization, and a broader reimagining of public safety.

  • LGTBQ kids make up 40% of youth experiencing homelessness, and a third of queer adults in New York are over 50. Lawmakers must prioritize access to affordable housing, good jobs, and affirming healthcare for queer New Yorkers of all ages.

  • All New Yorkers should be able to participate in democracy with dignity, including thorough passage of the Gender Inclusive Ballot Act. Other gender-identity-based barriers to individual flourishing must be identified and broken down.

I can thrive as a proud gay man onLy because of those who fought for acceptance in generations past — those we must honor by keeping the fight going.

My relatives are among those who lived their truth in drag at Stonewall before the riots and led efforts to raise money for HIV/AIDS research and treatment. I feel a profound debt to them, and to all the activists—especially the trans people of color—who have fought for our rights and recognition. We must continue that fight, while also supporting the joyful cultural life and nightlife that give our community its vibrancy.
